He was born on July 30, 1984 in Izmir, Türkiye. He grew up in a fun family where his father and older brother were lawyers and his mother was a landscape architect.
After graduating from Izmir Private Turkish High School, he graduated from Ege University, Department of Radio, Cinema and Television in 2006.
Growing up in a big family with colorful characters, Gupse has always been someone who loves comedy and making people laugh. After university, she followed her dreams and worked at different TV channels and advertising agencies. She did internships at Ege TV and İzmir TRT. She worked as an assistant at the İzmir Short Film Festival and then moved to İstanbul and continued her internships at Zeynep Atakan's company Co Production and TRT Çocuk. She also experienced being an assistant director in several television series.
Following her passion for writing and producing creative content, she worked as a copywriter at Young & Rubicam and Works agencies.
Following her interest in comedy and her heart, she started writing and making videos and sketches that quickly became popular on the internet. This was a turning point for Gupse and she took her place as one of the main characters in one of the most popular comedy series on Turkish television, "Yalan Dünya".
She successfully portrayed one of the characters in the series, "Nurhayat", for four years. After receiving the "Best Comedy Actress" award at the 2012 Antalya TV Awards, she received the "Best Female Comedy Artist" award at the 2013 Golden Butterfly Awards.
Passionate about writing and creating, Gupse wrote and starred in her own comedy film. “Deliha” became one of the best films of 2014 and reached over 1.5 million viewers in the cinema. With Deliha, Gupse received the “Best Female Comedy Artist” award at the 2015 Sadri Alışık Awards.
In 2016, she made another film, “Görümce”, which she wrote the script for and played the leading role in, and reached 1.9 million people in the cinema. With her third film, “Deliha 2”, Gupse became the first woman to write, direct and play the leading role in Turkish cinema. Deliha 2 was watched by more than two million people, surpassing the success of her previous two films.
She wrote the script and played the leading role in the movie "Eltilerin Savaşı", which was released in January 2020. The movie, which reached 3.6 million viewers in theaters, became one of the most watched content on Netflix in the summer of 2020.
Gupse Özay also has children's books called Jüpi and the Grocer Uncle's Tonky Moustache, Jüpi and the Neighbor Aunt's Talking Slippers and Jüpi and the Grocer Brother's Orange Color. With her creative nature, Gupse still continues to write and create different content, especially focused on women and children.
Recently, Gupse has joined forces with her brother and cousin to establish her own creative production company, Gipsybee Entertainment, creating a fun platform for women who enjoy writing, creating and acting, producing female-focused comedy content.
Inspired by the people around her and their stories, Gupse believes in the healing and unifying power of comedy and continues on her way as one of the most successful ambassadors of female comedy in Türkiye.
